Electric

NPPD has been working very hard in the city to keep the electrical current flowing through the lines without any interruptions. On West 4th Street the overhead lines are being put underground to prevent rodent damage and downed power lines during storms. They are working on the service to the new Gerkin building in the southwest part of town. The Tech Spec building next door to the Gerkin building is being equipped with permanent service. NPPD will be working on the traffic lights on the by-pass next week. On East 13th and East 14th, NPPD is burying overhead and replacing some underground electric. Canterbury Apts. is having new primary installed. NPPD has contracted 2-3 different companies to lay underground pipe. As you can see, Nebraska Public Power District is hard at work to improve the electrical service you receive. This is only a portion of the work they are doing within the city.

This is just a reminder that when you see a street-light out call 494-7520 during the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  For any power outages before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m., please call the NPPD call center at 1-866-767-4689.

NPPD operates the city's electric system. The electric system is a public utility that is owned by the people it serves. The City Council establishes policy, sets electric rates, and approves expenditures to operate the electric system.

The electrical system covers seven square miles. The distribution system's primary voltage is 12,470 Y and is supplied by seven substations located throughout the city. Eighty percent of the electrical system is underground. The city will continue to work towards converting the remaining overhead lines to underground as time and money allow.
