IN SIOUXLAND RECYCLING IS EASY TO DO

Your green recycling bin makes recycling of glass, cans, plastic bottles, newspapers, magazines, cardboard, and textiles easy and convenient. Just follow these simple steps:

Think about cans, bottles, newspapers, textiles and cardboard in a new way: as recyclables, not trash!

Place the #1 AND #2 plastics, glass, tin and aluminum cans directly in your green bin. You don t need to keep these recyclable materials separate. They are sorted at the Center.

All paper and textiles (clothing), should be placed in a paper grocery sack and positioned in the bin so that the material will not blow out, Cardboard can be placed next to your Bin.

Put your green bin alongside your trash on your regular trash pick-up day.

Be sure your trash and recycling bin are out by 4:00 AM.

Recyclable containers that have not been properly rinsed may end up in the landfill. Also, paper and clothing that gets wet because it is set out in heavy rain or snow may end up in the landfill. Please participate so your effort will not be wasted.

The Green Recycling Bin
All area residents should have received a recycling bin. If you do not have a bin, need an extra bin, or have had the bin stolen, please call 494-8166. Our recycling bin belongs at your current residence. Please write your address on it in large print with a permanent marker. If you move, please do not take the bin with you. Leave it for the next recyclers who move into your house.

If Your Recycling Bin is Full
If you have more recyclables than your bin can hold, you may use a second bin, a cardboard box, or a plastic container no larger than the original bin, for extra items. Cardboard boxes cannot be larger than 24 x 30 x 12. Containers may not weigh over 30 pounds and must be marked Recycling or Recyclables . Empty cardboard boxes must be flattened and bundled (no larger than 24 x 30 ).

No Plastic Bags!

Please do not use plastic bags for your recyclables. Recyclables in plastic bags may end up at the landfill. We currently do not accept any type of plastic bags.

The Siouxland Regional Recycling Center
Your glass, cans, paper, textiles and plastics are being processed at the Siouxland Regional Recycling Center, located at 1701 Terminal Drive.

There, the recyclables are sorted, baled, and loaded onto trucks or rail cars for transport to mills and plants for re-manufacturing into new products. It is very important to keep unacceptable materials out of the recycling bin since your recyclables are used as a raw material for new products. For example: one unacceptable ceramic cup may cause an entire load of recyclables to be rejected.

Tours and Lids are Available!

Tours of the Siouxland Regional Recycling Center are available for individuals and groups. Plan on spending 30 minutes to an hour to see how our recycling materials are processed prior to shipment. To arrange a tour, please call the Siouxland Regional Recycling Center at (712) 279-6292

Lids for your recycling bin are available for a $3.00 charge at the Center.

The Siouxland Recycling Project has been partially funded by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Landfill Alternative Waste grants.
