Welcome to the South Sioux City Youth Leadership Council online.
The mission of the Youth Leadership Council is to involve youth in the process to discuss community issues, including safety, serve others through community service and enhancement, and serve as a liaison to the South Sioux City Council.
What is the Youth Leadership Council?
It is a diverse and dynamic group of young people who represent the youth of Dakota County. On issues that are important to them. The Youth Leadership Council is an opportunity for youth to have a formal role in the city's planning and decision-making.
Accomplishments:
. Teen Court: A diversion program for first time juvenile law violators. The program is available to youth who have been cited for misdemeanor offenses such as theft, criminal, trespassing and some traffic and alcohol offenses.
· Buddy Breakfast: Youth have breakfast with K-5th grade students before school
· Candidate Forum: Organized a forum for candidates running for election.
· Col. Bud Day: Established a day the students body would celebrate Siouxland's own hero.
· Compliance Checks: Under the supervision of Law Enforcement we approach different establishment to see if they sell alcohol or tobacco products to minors.
· Board of Education: Youth visit with Board members on school issues.
· Celebrating Community: Decorate the Unity Tree, learn about different culture celebrations, visit the nursing home.
· Participate in Governor's Day: with the South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce
· Youth present: in Washington DC for the All America City Award 2003
· Education: AIDS, HIV, Gangs, Drugs, Laws Curfew/ MIP/etc., Forums
· Youth attend: National League of Cities Conferences in LA, Boston, Atlanta, Salt Lake City.
