FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER / EMT (EMT – Paramedic; Advanced EMT or EMT)

CIVIL SERVICE RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

The City of South Sioux City Fire Department is accepting applications until Noon on March 21, 2025.

This announcement is for testing to establish an ELIGIBILTY LIST for anticipated openings during the 2025-2026 Civil Service Testing Year for the position of Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic. Any future vacancies will be filled from this list while it is active.

Position Requirements:

Applicants must be minimum of 18 years of age:

Hold a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician Credential and State of Nebraska Health and Human Services Emergency Medical Credential for: Emergency Medical Technician / Advanced Emergency Medical Technician / Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, by May 12, 2025.

State of Nebraska Office of the Fire Marshal Credential; International Fire Service Accreditation Council; or International Accreditation for the Fire Service/National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (PRO BOARD):

NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications

NFPA 1026 Standard for Incident Management Personnel Professional Qualifications: ICS 100, 200, 700, 800

NFPA 1002 Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator and Aerial Professional Qualifications

City of South Sioux City has Residency Requirements:

Full-time Firefighter/EMT’s shall be required to reside in the State of Nebraska within thirty (30) miles of a South Sioux City fire station for the duration of his/her employment. Employees shall have six (6) months from their first day of employment to comply with this requirement. This time may be extended upon approval from the City Administrator.

Initial Annual Salary Is Set by Credentials:

Firefighter/EMT $19.36 per hour

Firefighter/AEMT $20.36 per hour

Firefighter/EMT Paramedic $21.36 per hour

Pay increases occur after Completion of 6-month Probation Period.
