 24th Annual National Night Out

 

On Tuesday, August 7th, neighborhoods throughout South Sioux City are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "24th Annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event.  National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co sponsored by the South Sioux City Police Department, will involve over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.  In all, over 33 million people are expected to participate in 'America's Night Out Against Crime' on August 7th.  NNO 2007 is being supported in part by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. 

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;  (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. 

The South Sioux City Police Department invites you to the 2007 National Night Out.  From 6:00 PM-8:00PM on August 7th, residents throughout South Sioux City and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.  The South Sioux City Police Department along with many other City Departments will be hosting a variety of events at Klasey Park, 1101 1st Avenue.  The events will include:  K-9 demonstrations by police, police car displays, prize drawings, bike patrol officers riding throughout the park.  The South Sioux City Optimist Club will be sponsoring a bike rodeo from 6:00 to 6:45 pm and encourages kids to bring their bikes to the event to have them inspected and ride through an obstacle course.  Special items will also be given way by the Optimist Club for the bike rodeo.  Kids can decorate their bikes and the top 3 bike decorators can receive a prize.  There will also be crafts, balloons, and a variety of other activities.   Some of the agencies involved will be: South Sioux City Police, Dakota County Sheriff's Dept, Haven House, and the South Sioux City Fire Dept, booths from city departments, neighborhood watch representatives.   Come join the fun!!!!!!  Go to www.southsiouxcity.organd click on National Night Out to view some photos from last year's event and keep up to date about the list of activities for this year as August 7th nears.  Any businesses who would like to donate proceeds or be involved with National Night Out are encouraged to contact Officer Jeanette McFee at the South Sioux City Police Department.
