YMCA Youth Help Attempt to Break Record for World's Largest Swim Lesson
Summer Campers to Join Global Effort
South Sioux City, NE - The Norm Waitt Sr. Y will be joining more than 500 other sites around the globe in an attempt to hold the World's Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL) on Thursday, June 14, at 10:00 AM.
Y Summer Camp students ranging from Kindergarten through 5th grade, along with children and families at waterparks, pools and other aquatic facilities representing 24 countries on 5 continents, will take part in WLSL lessons simultaneously at 10:00 AM in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record%u2122 and prove that "Swimming Lessons Save Lives." Created to serve as a platform to help community aquatic facilities, the World's Largest Swimming Lesson looks to build awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim. Last year's WLSL event included over 20,000 participants from 13 countries.
Swimming is a life-saving skill for children and vital to prevent drowning, the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children ages 1 to 14. Research shows if a child doesn't learn to swim by the third grade, they likely never will.
