Archaeology in Nebraska September 25^th

Nolan Johnson, Highway Archaeologist, for the Nebraska State Historical Society will speak on Archaeology in Nebraska at the South Sioux City Public Library, 2121 Dakota Avenue, South Sioux City, Nebraska in Thursday night September 25^th at 6:30 p.m.

Celebrate Nebraska Archaeology, held in September, is a month-long exploration of Nebraska’s archaeological past. It engages professional archaeologists and the citizens of Nebraska in activities showing the archaeological richness of our State in order to encourage a new generation of archaeologists and give citizens a greater appreciation of archaeological site stewardship.

Archaeology is the study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains.

Archeological discoveries can be made along nearly any roadside construction site.  Nebraska currently has active research going on at Fort Atkinson State Historical Site in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska and the steamboat Bertrand at the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge.
