Nancy Gillis to Speak at Writer to Writer: Nancy Gillis will speak on writing book reviews at this month’s Writer to writer meeting, Saturday October 18th at 10:00 a.m.
Nancy Gillis, of Cherokee/Muskogee/Choctaw heritage, is the retired CEO of the John Neihardt Foundation. Gillis joined the Foundation in May 1997 with experience in education and corporate administration. She regularly speaks to schools and civic groups on the work of John Neihardt, and has served on the faculty at Nebraska Indian Community College. First arriving to Nebraska in 1987 to work with the Winnebago Tribe for the Reformed Church in America, she served on that denomination’s Native American Council and Commission for Race and Ethnicity. She has also been the recipient of a fellowship from the Smithsonian Institution to take part in Diversity Leadership and Museums training in Washington, D.C. She currently serves on the board of the Nebraska Folk Life Network, and the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Society.
